Safety Performance Evaluation of Plate Transitions from Fixed Concrete Barriers to Portable Concrete Barriers Using Simulation
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Background Longitudinal barriers are systems that consist of three basic elements: end treatments, length of need sections, and transitions. Each element needs to be designed and evaluated to assure that safety requirements are met. This applies to transitions for portable concrete barriers (PCB). The specific design features of PCBs and their associated size and mass complicate the design for transition, however.

Safety Performance Evaluation of Concrete Barriers on Curved and Superelevated Roads
Highways are comprised of tangent and curved sections. It has been established that there is a difference in safety between these types of sections. Roadside safety hardware, however, is not specifically designed or tested to address the differences in behavior that may be associated with placement of curves relative to tangent sections. The differences in safety performance may be negligible d...
متن کاملExperimental Evaluation of Performance Criteria for Reinforced Concrete Beams under Cyclic Loading
To assess the performance criteria of the reinforced-concrete, five-storey residential buildings common in Iran, an experimental study in the structural laboratory of the University of Tehran has been conducted. The test program includes cyclic and monotonic load tests of six beams that represent three-to-five storey buildings with rigid frame structures. Using definitions given in FEMA-356 a...

متن کاملConcrete Degradation Modeling in the Evaluation of Entombment as a Decommission Option
For entombment to be a viable option for the decommissioning of nuclear structures, the effectiveness of available engineered barriers needs to be assured. Barrier performance should be estimated with the aid of computer models that can accurately predict the response of the barrier to foreseeable physical and chemical conditions. For concrete barriers, virtually all degradation mechanisms are ...
متن کاملAre There Any Differences in Seismic Performance Evaluation Criteria for Concrete Arch Dams?
Differences between stress-based and strain-based criteria are investigated in seismic performance evaluation of the arch dams in time domain. A numerical model of the coupled dam-reservoir-foundation system is prepared with the finite element technique. Reservoir is modeled using the Eulerian approach as a compressible domain, and the foundation rock is assumed to be massless. Dynamic equilibr...
